pkr.com – Modern Day Poker

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Saturday Dec 6th, 2008

www.pkr.com – When looking at the way poker has changed in recent years, memories come back for me, of a simplistic game of Five Card Draw I played when I was young, on a hand held computer of some sort. I did not understand how to play at the time, but found it interesting nevertheless.

PLAY NOW

Little did I realise that what I was playing on was a simplified version of what we have developed up to this point in time. We no longer need real decks of playing cards to participate in poker, and computerised forms of the game are easily accessible in online poker rooms.

The graphics and elements of choice we have with these games are growing ever better, and consequently these games are becoming increasingly popular. There are even phones in the modern day with poker games on them, not to mention computer consoles too. But I do not think that these games are good for developing your poker game, because in most cases, you are playing against the computer itself.

In the case of poker games on computer consoles, they are easy to beat in my experience, because they do not have the capacity to alter their way of playing to combat an effective method of play from the human opponent. Playing in online poker rooms is a different story however, and I certainly feel that these games offer good poker experience. Regardless of this fact, I have always been an advocate for a good old fashioned, real deck of playing cards, with real opponents. this provides the game of poker in it’s purest form, and we should be careful that computerised versions of the game never overhaul the live game entirely.

pkr.com – What Makes a Good Online Poker Room?

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Nov 24th, 2008

www.pkr.com - When it comes to the best poker rooms on the net, there are several aspects of these sites that make them successful I feel. The following points are certainly important ones in this regard. First and foremost in the players eyes, is that their chosen site behaves flawlessly in terms of security and the random dealing of the cards.

For NL Poker KLICK HEIR

Almost all sites are excellent in this regard as they all know that it is in their interests to be so. Another important point is that customers on site feel well looked after in terms of help and support. All sites will offer some sort of support, but as a player, I prefer to see live chat options avilable in order to get problems solved immediately. Also having this help on offer 24/7 is a good thing too.

In terms of graphics, this is something which will not affect the outcome of your finances whilst you play, but what good graphics does do, is give you a real feel of professionalism and enjoyment while you play.
Promotions should cater for the needs of both the bigger bankrolls, and the more casual players. Although sites may make more money from the bigger money player, the casual players are more numerous, and so it is important make them feel well looked after too.

Good gauranteed prize pools, variations in the type of game, and tournament are helpful too of course, and sites who persevere with all these aspects are in my opinion, the most likely to succeed.

pkr.com – At What Point Are You Pot Comitted?:

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Nov 13th, 2008

pkr.com – The phrase ‘pot commited’ basically means that you have put enough into the pot, that you cannot fold if you have a hand which still has a slight chance to win. In some ways I can agree with this sentiment, because there comes a point where a pot is too large for you to let go of your hand without a showdown, in case your opponent is bluffing.

For NL Poker CLICK HERE

If you would be left with hardly any chips if you folded, and you feel it impossible you could double up enough as many times as it takes to get you back to the chip average, perhaps it is right to call.

I want to believe the maths behind this, and that if I only feel there is a 10% chance in my mind that I am in front in a huge pot, I should call a small raise for the rest of my chips. But the fact is that I cannot. The fact remains that I shouldn’t get myself in that ‘pot commited’ instance anyway. But if I am at that point, I have been known to defy the maths of the situation and fold, because I feel we should trust our judgment over what maths tells us every time in poker.

So my answer to the question of ‘at what point are we pot commited?’ is technically, never. If we are that sure that we are beaten, we should never throw the last few chips in ‘on the off chance’ that we might be in front. That part of our mind is the over optimistic nature of our minds that causes gamblers to stand at roulette wheels, or play blackjack against the house. We know the odds are against us, but we go against our logic regardless….Just in case.

The Connotations Surrounding Poker:

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Nov 3rd, 2008

When I talk about the assumptions people make about nl poker, I talk about those unfamiliar to the game, not those who play the game such as you or I.

KLIK HIER

My understanding is that many people who have never played the game attach to it in their minds, a sense of unfair play and dangerously high stakes. Perhaps in the distant history of the game this was true of poker, as many men would go broke, or attempt to cheat whilst playing the game. The same is not true however, of poker today. It is conducted fairly and played for many different stakes, from one or two cents right up to the larger stake games, and it is entirely at the discretion of the players involved how much they wish to wager in a game.

I personally know people who attach this ill feeling to the game of poker, but I do not think this will last. The fact that poker has become enjoyed and understood better, by so many people in recent years, would certainly support the view that assumptions about the game will gradually change, and I hope this is the case.

Older generations are probably more inclined to hold this misguided interpretation of the game than younger people, but nevertheless, the sentiment is still there, and the growth of the game as a whole will aid this change. Alongside this, the televised tournaments that are shown will continue to show that the game is in the modern day, conducted with the utmost sportsmanship and gentlmanly behaviour, perhaps more so than many sports which are accepted and played by millions of people worldwide.

Rarities in the Game of Poker:

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Oct 23rd, 2008

The possibilities of hands and situations that playing poker can create are numerous, and some of these circumstances do not come around very often at all. the most obvious hand that you hardly ever see is the royal flush, because the probability of a player making the hand is so low.

PLAY NOW

In many ways, you could say that making a royal flush is not the most favourable of situations in the game, and although that sounds crazy, the reason I say that is because you will usually have the cards held in your hand that would interest an opponent in callig sizeable bets. One of what I would call the most profitable and rare situations to be in, happened to me recently and it was unfortunate that I had reraised heavily and forced my opponent out before it had a chance to happen.

After searching through the cards after my opponent had folded, we saw that his (A,9) would have hit a wonderful flop of (A,A,7). I breathed a sigh of relief as I had been holding (K,K), but as we flipped the turn and river that would have been, I was astounded to see (K) then another (K) fall after the flop. Needless to say, with the top full house, there would have been no escaping his fate for my opponent had he called and seen the flop.

Such situations are very rare which cause a player to be in a lethal hand, as usually with poker, you will not be in such a strong position that you cannot fold, and still be beaten. Whether you are the victim of such a rare hand however, or indeed the victor, remember that these are the hands that make poker the exciting and unpredictable game that it is, and you will have a hand you will remember for a very long time.

The Pros and Cons of Trapping:

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Wednesday Oct 15th, 2008

Personally, trapping players is something I like to do from time to time, although it is important not to do so too often, or with hands which can be easily outdrawn. There is one player I know who makes a habit of flat calling preflop when he has (A,A), and this is something I would not advise in almost any circumsance.

KLIK DEZE LINK

I say ‘almost’ because I did the exact same thing myself a few days ago, but only because the circumstances dictated it was right to. With two short stacks and the chipleader behind me and left to act, I knew the short stacks would likely push all in or fold their hands, and if they both folded, the chipleader might try and steal the pot. Because of the circumstances, I was in no great danger of having three or four plyers go to the flop, so it wasn’t an unreasonable play.

Mostly I would say that trapping multiple players is a bad idea, although different situations call for different plays. Assuming you have a strong hand when you are setting a trap the main points to remember are firstly, is your opponent an aggresive player who is likely to raise after your show of false weakness? And if they do, what sort of cards are dangerous to your hand, and might result in you allowing your opponent to make a stronger hand. If for instance, you have a set on a flop of (Kh,8c,9c) I would not advise trying to trap, because although your hand is strong, the wrong turn or river card could get you into deep trouble. So be careful when trapping, and try not to do it with mediocre hands in my opinion.

Recent Tournaments:

After a refreshing 6th place finish in my weekly Wednesday night live tournament, I followed this up with a 4th place on Saturday. Admittedly there were less players on Saturday, but it is the fact that I am feeling better about my play at the moment that counts to me more, as a player.

KLIK DEZE LINK

I made some good reads and despite dropping down to 1,700 in chips late on, I picked up pocket aces just after my forced all in by the big blind had trebled me up. Unfortunately though, I still had to keep busy to try and get myself into a more comfortable position, and I was caught making a move against the big blind when I was in the small. After it had been folded around, I made an all in bet, my opponent happened to have (K,J) and I was gone.
Online has also seen some joy for me in recent days, with a second place in a bounty tournament on PKR netting me a total of $91 for 7 heads and the 2nd place. Also a 1st place on a $10 STT was helpful amongst other cashes, and I am currently feeling revived in my faith, for both myself and the game of poker. The important thing as a player, is to stick with it and keep playing your game if you ever find yourself disheartened, because things always turn around eventually.
So I approach this week with renewed optimism, and high hopes for my live league game on Wednesday. Although I can also recognise I have been having the run of the cards online for the past couple of days, I would like to think my balance moving in the right direction is partly due to my play too. I hope of course, that this trend also continues.

Titanpoker.com Software Review

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Aug 12th, 2008
